Cadet Command Scholarship

Eight scholarships available for the University of Maine ROTC program. These scholarships pay tuition, a monthly tax free stipend and 1200 a year for books. The scholarship is worth about 68,000.00. They are available to a high school senior who's GPA is 2.5 or above and scored a 920 or better on the SAT's math and reading combined only. This is for students interested in becoming an Army officer.

Must maintain an academic average of C or above.
Must submit a letter of recommendation from your school principal or from Guidance Counselor.
Must complete an essay of 300 words or less on "Why I want to enter the filed of law enforcement"

GPA requirement is 70 or better and an essay. Application deadline is May 29 of each year. Each scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.

American Chemical Society

Apply now for the scholars program designed to be a catalyst for African American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian students seeking to pursue undergraduate college degrees in chemical sciences and chemical technology.

The amount of each individual award will depend upon the availability of funding, the number of scholarships awarded, and evidence of financial need. Scholarships will be given up to a maximum of $3,000 per year. The awards in the ACS Scholars Program, as well as those in the co-sponsored programs are renewable.

The basic criteria remain the same for all components fo the American Chemical Society Scholars Program. Application to the basic American Chemical Society Scholars Program automatically places the applicant in consideration for the sponsored components. The number and duration of scholarship awards is subject to available funding and the intent of the co-sponsoring group or organization.

To be considered a candidate, students should meet the following criteria:

  • African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian;
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.;
  • full-time student at an accredited college, university, or community college;
  • high academic achievers in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average 3.0, "B" or better);
  • able to demonstrate evidence of financial need according to FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) form;
  • a graduating high school senior, college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science and planning a career in the chemical sciences or chemical technology;

Please note that students intending to enter Pre-Med programs or pursing a degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this scholarship.

Alpha One

Environmental Scholarship at Sterling College

The Environmental Steward Scholarship–Covers the annual cost of tuition.

Scholarship application required. Deadline is April 1. Scholarship applicants must also submit a completed application for admission. Scholarship is awarded to two students based on the type and amount of environmental service and volunteerism the applicant has completed. The level of commitment to these activities the applicant has demonstrated is also a very important factor.

The scholarship covers tuition expenses at Sterling College for four years (8 semesters) or, in the case of a transfer student, until completion of the Bachelor of Arts degree, whichever comes first. Scholarship recipients must enroll full-time at Sterling College during the fall semester for which they are awarded the scholarship, stay enrolled continuously, live on campus, and maintain full-time status, a quality point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, satisfactory effort grades, and satisfactory progress in the Work College Program.

Students receiving the Environmental Steward Scholarship are responsible for the cost of room, board, and fees. Should federal, state, or other outside aid sources be available and create an over award situation then the Environmental Steward Scholarship will be reduced to eliminate the over award but cover expenses up to the budget total. Recipients of the Environmental Steward Scholarship are ineligible for other Sterling College grants and scholarships.

Since 1992, the ChairScholars Foundation has provided scholarships for needy graduating high school seniors and college freshman. All of these students are seriously physically challenged and would not be able to complete their education without the help of our Foundation.

Chet Jordan Leadership Award Fund

This scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of Chet Jordan, a Portland based businessman who exhibited a deep sense of civic responsibility in his community and his home state of Maine. Mr. Jordan grew up in Portland and spent his leisure time in Patten and Aroostook County, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. The family and friends of Chet Jordan established this scholarship to celebrate the rich legacy of his leadership in business and civic affairs in his beloved state of Maine. Chet found opportunity in adversity. He was a visionary thinker who respected diverse opinions. He was actively involved with his family, friends, employees and community and delighted in their successes.

The Chet Jordan Leadership Award is presented to students who are emerging leaders in their community and school. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at the following high schools: Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Cape Elizabeth, Cheverus, Cony, Cumberland, Deering, Greely, Falmouth, Gorham, John Bapst, Katahdin, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Yarmouth, and all high schools in Aroostook County who are leaders despite hardship, adversity or disability. Academic excellence is not a prerequisite, but demonstrated compassion, dependability and hard work are.

The Dr. Stephen J. Haggan Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 to provide scholarship support to a graduating senior of Hampden Academy.

The Stupak Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools in the Penobscot Valley Conference who are furthering their education at an accredited college or university. Marion F. and Peter Plouff Scholarship Fund

The Marion F. and Peter Plouff Scholarship Fund provides renewable support to residents of Dexter, Maine, to pursue their education at a post-secondary institution. Preference will be given to non-traditional students, those who have a record of community service and to students for whom a scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend college.

Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship Fund

In 2000, while serving as Clerk of the House, Mr. Mayo was stricken with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Friends of Joe Mayo have established this scholarship to recognize his contributions as a father, friend and public servant. This scholarship was established to assist men and women who are children, step-children, grandchildren, spouses, domestic partners or the primary care givers of ALS patients.

The Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship is awarded annually to a student (or students) who are attending a post-secondary educational institution, including both 4-year colleges and 2-year associate programs. The student recipient must be a graduate of a Maine high school or GED program

CMP Scholarship Fund

In January, 1995, the John W. Rowe Scholarship Fund was revised and renamed “The CMP Scholarship Fund.” Applicants must be: dependents of employees or recent retirees of CMP or its subsidiaries; high school seniors graduating from a Maine secondary school; reside within Central Maine Power Company’s service area; and enrolled in an accredited two or four-year undergraduate college or university. Scholarships will be granted on the basis of personal aspirations, academic achievement, financial need, and the student’s contribution to school or community activities.

Labs are Vital

Labs are Vital has a scholarship available to students in the amount of 2,500. Students interested in lab sciences enjoy problem solving, or are creative-thinkers interested in design or video production. This is a global program sponsored by Abbott.
