World Studio AIGA Scholarships

Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships benefit minority and economically disadvantaged students who are studying the design/arts disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States.
scholarship recipients are selected not only for their ability and their need, but also for their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the larger community through their work.

Basic scholarships are awarded in the amount of $2,000-$3,000. Grand Prize awards are also given each year in amounts up to $6,000 at the jury's discretion. These awards are paid directly to your school to be applied toward your tuition. In addition, Honorable Mention prizes in the amount of $200 cash are awarded.

STEP 1 is completed online and requires inputting information about yourself and your school, as well as uploading digital images of your work. This part of the application will be found at this website www.worldstudio.org, or at www.aiga.org beginning January 4, 2008.

STEP 2 requires filling out and mailing a hard copy of an application form that you can print from the link below or from www.aiga.org.

Eligibility:
  • Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the fine or commercial arts, design or architecture - one of the design/arts disciplines listed under "areas of study" - and plan to enter a caeer in the creative professions.
  • Applicants must be matriculated (or planning to matriculate) at accredited colleges and universities in the United States for the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 academic year and intend on maintaining full-time status for the entire year.
  • Incoming students who have yet to enroll must submit proof of acceptance from school of choice.
  • Though not a requirement, minority status is a significant factor considered in jury decisions.
  • Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Scholarships are only awarded to those students who are in financial need. Applicants must, therefore, provide complete Financial Aid information on the scholarship form and have the form signed by his/her Financial Aid Officer.

Humane Society of the US.

Shaw-Worth memorial Scholarship.
Each year the scholarship is awarded to a New England high school senior that has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection over a significant amount of time. The award consists of tuition assistance in the amount of $2,000 which is payable to the college or University at which the recipient will be matriculating in 2008.

There is no standard application form to complete. Applications should be written in letter form and should include a narrative of the student's achievements in animal protection, as well as a discussion of his or her attitude toward animals. Documentation of the activities cited, and recommendations from at least three people and a description of future plans for humane work are required. In addition, applications should include the student's home address and phone number.

This scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university. To qualify a student must be graduation high school senior and may not be a wal-mart or Sam's club associate, or the child or legal dependant of a Wal-Mart or Sam's club associate. US JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship.

Maine High School seniors are eligible to apply through the Maine JCI Senate representative on the application form. Applications must be postmarked by Jan 14, 2008. The Maine JCI Senate will select two candidates for the next level of judging by the US JCI Senate Foundation. Last year, the US JCI Senate Foundation awarded scholarships of $1,000 each to 20 students from the United States (including one from Maine). The Maine JCI Senate will award a small scholarship of $75 each to the two Maine finalists. Russ Casey Restaurant Association Scholarship

Who is eligible to apply? Any student who is a resident of Maine and is, or will be attending an institution of higher education in a field of study clearly associated with the Culinary Arts, Restaurant, Hotel or Hospitality Management, with preference given to those pursuing a career in food service and preference given to Maine based educational institutions.

Scholarship amount: Generally, 3 - $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually based on fund earnings and qualified applications. This may be altered from time to time based on the number and quality of applications received and funds available.

How are the scholarships awarded? Scholarships are awarded based on a review of applications by the Scholarship Selection Committee, a subcommittee of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Academic achievement, work experience, career interests, family need and relationship to the Maine Restaurant Association through family or employer are the primary criteria for selecting scholarship recipients. The scholarships may be given to the same applicant in separate years but must be based on separate applications each year.

Maine JCI Senate

United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program. Each year $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in the United States, who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools.

The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of their choice.

Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation

Who is eligible to apply? The Maine Innkeepers Association (MIA) administers two scholarship programs - one for Maine residents who wish to continue their education in the hospitality industry, and the other for students related to MIA members and students related to employees of MIA members. Scholarships for Maine residents are available to students who have been accepted to fully accredited schools with specialties in hotel administration and culinary sciences (e.g., Beal College, Southern Maine Technical College) and who are pursuing a career in the hotel and motel industry. Eligible students may be graduating high school seniors, the sons or daughters of an MIA member, or employees of MIA properties (including Allied Members) who have a grade point average of at least 2.5. Scholarships for Maine residents affiliated with MIA are available to (1) a member of the immediate family (owner/manager) whose property has been an active member of MIA for at least three consecutive years and whose dues are current; (2) a member of the immediate family (owner/manager) of a business of an allied member who has been a member of the MIA for at least three years and whose dues are current; and, (3) a student of person(s) who have been gainfully employed full-time for at least three years by an active member property or a business of an allied member and endorsed by the owner/manager.

Scholarship amount: Awards range from $500 to $1,000. While awards are not automatically renewable, students may apply for an award more than once.

How are the scholarships awarded? Awards are made based on scholastic record, financial need, employment history, extracurricular activities, and desire for a career in the hospitality industry.

Application process: Maine residents applying for a scholarship must submit an official high school transcript, two letters of reference from teachers or counselors, a letter of reference from a hotel or motel owner or proprietor, and an essay of no more than 500 words describing the student's affiliation with the hospitality industry, why the student is applying for this scholarship, and the student's career goals. Students who are affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association (MIA) must submit an official high school transcript, letters of acceptance from an institution(s) of higher education, two letters of reference from teachers or counselors and a third letter from the student's employer, and an essay of no more than 500 words describing why the student is applying for this scholarship, and the student's career goals. George V. Soule Scholarship - 2007

The Ruffed Grouse Society is pleased to offer two $3000 scholarship to deserving students who will be continuing their education in the fields of Wildlife Conservation, Conservation Law Enforcement, or Forest Management. Each student must intend to become a practitioner in one of the above mentioned fields, preferably in the state of Maine.
