Visual Arts Awards are in the form of 1,000 or 2,000. They are renewable for 8 semesters and must be utilized within a 5 year period. They are awarded on the basis of talent or accomplishment in the study of Studio Art, Art History or Art Education. Applicants must be accepted into UMaine's college of Liberal Arts and Sciences and choose a major in Art (Studio Art, Art Education, Art History) to receive a scholarship.

- Be realistic about your school choices, both academically and financially.

- Be sure you meet the eligibility criteria for any scholarship you apply to.
- Prepare your essays thoughtfully and answer the questions asked. This is your opportunity to "sell yourself". Use it wisely.
- Spell check, spell check, spell check.
- Be sure to enclose all documents requested. If for any reason you're unable to include something, indicate so and give a date when it might be expected.
- Keep copies of everything you send out.
- Respect all submission deadlines.
- Write thank you notes.
