Know Deadlines.
Take the initiative to go to the guidance office.
Make the time to research all avenues of support.
Be realistic about your school choices, both academically and financially.
Talk about your plans, ideas and dreams with friends and family. The more people who know what you're thinking, the wider your circle of support.
Be sure you meet the eligibility criteria for any scholarship you apply to.
Prepare your essays thoughtfully and answer the questions asked. This is your opportunity to "sell yourself". Use it wisely.
Spell check, spell check, spell check.
Be sure to enclose all documents requested. If for any reason you're unable to include something, indicate so and give a date when it might be expected.
Keep copies of everything you send out.
Respect all submission deadlines.
Write thank you notes.
